Plans to provide super-fast broadband throughout the UK by 2015 will only succeed if intelligent solutions are found to compensate for a potential lack of funding, according to one analyst.

Earlier this month, culture secretary Jeremy Hunt presented the government's proposals, which include £830 million of public money to extend connectivity to even the most rural areas within five years.

However, Broadband Stakeholder Group chief executive Antony Walker said it will require hard work to meet the target, while the most difficult barrier to success will be the current economic climate and the associated restrictions on public spending.

"It's about finding smart solutions and that's what is going to be required in the months and years ahead," the expert added.

A recent survey by website Broadband Expert revealed 42 per cent of people did not believe the plan would be implemented by 2015, while just five per cent said it would definitely be in place.
