Businesses should purchase echo cancellation software for their VoIP service network, it has been claimed.

The majority of telecommunications systems suffer from echo and the problem is especially prevalent in long-distance international calls.

Frederic Dickey, director of marketing and product management at Sangoma, expressed his belief that echo cancellation is essential to improve the audio quality of VoIP calls.

He told TMC Net: "In the case of VoIP, delays for calls are typically longer, which makes echo more perceptible to the human ear – (-) so good echo cancellation is required on all calls, even if the call is between colleagues who are in cubicles next to one another."

Mr Dickey advised firms to use digital signal processing (DSP) technology to implement echo cancellation throughout the IP telephony system.

This then frees up the computing processor to carry out other essential tasks, he added.
