Quality of Service (QoS) tools can help improve the audio quality of VoIP service calls, it has been claimed.

QOS tools prioritise data packets to ensure sufficient bandwidth is delivered to a particular application during periods of high-network traffic.

Curtis Franklin Jr, writing for computerworld.com, claimed that the software can be ideal for organisations who use VoIP solutions.

He said: "The preferred packets will be at the top of the queue when passing through a network port, while lesser packets cool their heels.

"The result is smoother audio and video presentation, even when the network is humming with file transfers and general business traffic."

Mr Franklin Jr added that other options may be available to smaller firms who can not afford to introduce QOS solutions.

For example, businesses can choose to back up their system files at night rather than during working hours to free up network space.
