A new mobile VoIP service application has been launched in the US, it has been revealed.

Telecommunications firms Vox Communications and Nimbuzz have teamed up to develop the VoX Mobile Out software for Android handsets.

Users will be able to make low-cost domestic and international VoIP calls via 3G and Wi-Fi networks, while they will also benefit from a second phone number and voice mail box.

Evert Jaap Lugt, chief executive of Nimbuzz, expressed his delight at the move and expected rapid uptake from the growing number of Android users in the country.

He said: "The addition of the VoX service supports our mission to provide as wide a range of service to their users as possible, to give them the choice and power to communicate how they want, anywhere at any time and to make international calls at the lowest rates available."

Market research firm In-Stat has predicted that around 300 million consumers will access mobile VoIP solutions by 2013.
