More companies in New York could soon be adopting VoIP solutions following the roll out of a new communications network.

Telecommunications firm XO Communications has announced that it will offer its broadband and VoIP services to the western region of the state.

Business and home users will both be able to benefit from the new technology, which could also result in rival firms lowering their prices as competition levels increase.

Mark Murphy, regional vice president of sales for northeast region at XO Communications, claimed the cities of Rochester and Buffalo offer a range of business opportunities.

He said: "Moving into these western New York markets will allow us to provide local businesses with a major nationwide alternative for communications services and foster a more competitive telecom market in the area."

XO Communications also claims to be the first nationwide service provider to allow its clients to add VoIP lines at no extra cost.
