UK mobile phone operator O2 has announced it is set to launch a new international VoIP service.

Following the firm's acquisition of VoIP service provider Jajah, O2 has unveiled its International Favourites package which offers customers the chance to make low-cost international VoIP calls.

Users who purchase £10 of credit will receive 3,000 minutes to call three international landline numbers, while a £20 top-up will allow them to use 3,000 landline minutes and 200 mobile minutes to contact five international numbers.

Sally Cowdry, O2 marketing director, claimed the international calling market is "poorly served" and often expensive and complex.

She said: "International Favourites gives our customers a great value and convenient option for connecting with their friends and families abroad through their mobiles."

O2 customers will also be issued with a local phone number in one of 42 countries, reducing the cost of incoming calls which will be charged at the local rate.

The service is set to be offered to both pay-as-you-go and pay-monthly customers on October 26th.
