Users of a mobile VoIP application have accumulated more than 3.5 billion voice minutes in just over two years, it has been revealed.

The mobile communications software Nimbuzz was launched in May 2008 and customers have talked for 3.65 billions minutes since its release.

Underlining the growing popularity of mobile IP telephony solutions, Nimbuzz was downloaded over 150 million times from various application stores, as well as the official website.

"Unlike Skype, Nimbuzz is the only open universal communications platform on the market today," said chief executive Evert Jaap Lugt.

"With 28 million registered users across all major mobile operating systems, our success can be attributed to the fact that Nimbuzz is not solely a chat platform or a VoIP service, but a complete communications service that includes free talk and messaging."

It follows a recent report by Allot Communications which showed that more mobile broadband users are accessing VoIP solutions

It will be a happy day when VoIP service has completely eliminated the cellular market. Why? People would be able to communicate for much less than what mobile companies are now charging people.

Tying in the Wi-Max capabilities worldwide, much like Satellite radio services (i.e. XM & Sirus) we will be not only be able to communicate on a more dependable platform, but also be able to enable real high quality steaming video along with it. Who will emerge as the major player in the marketplace will soon be determined.

It is no wonder why VoIP has been deemed as the #1 wealth trend in this decade! Inc 500 has ranked the top 10 and worst 10 industries to be apart of in a recent issue of the magazine.

Striking Out the VoIP Competiton
