VoIP services in Anglesey could be set to improve following the roll out of super-fast broadband in the area.

Fibre-optic broadband specialist i3 Group will trial its WiMax 4G package, known as Fibrezone, across the region, allowing 300 homes in North Wales to access download speeds of up to 10Mbps.

The move could allow residents to access IP telephony solutions for the first time, with many of those set to be connected to the network currently unable to access broadband.

John Prescott, company director of Carrier Wales, the firm who will provide the service, claimed the programme would offer a "true broadband solution".

"For too long we have been unable to deliver reliable services to the residents and businesses in north Wales, if at all, because the infrastructure simply isn't here," he said.

"The prospect of a rollout following this trial will revolutionise communications in north Wales."

The i3 Group will fun fibre-optics through sewers before transmitting the internet service wirelessly via 4G.
