Digital testing firm EXFO has released a new software package which could help businesses improve the quality of their VoIP services.

The company has added new features to its InterWatch R14 and QualityAssurer QA-604 platforms, enabling users to test the performance of their VoIP network at security gateways.

Although security is essential for firms using IP telephony solutions, these gateways, which can help prevent malicious attacks, also require significant bandwidth.

According to EXFO, the new software can help companies establish their service performance throughout the network.

Hannu Huttunen, vice president of EXFO's wireless division, claimed the new package will help double the firm's customer base to two million.

He said: "With EXFO's solution, the security impact on users' sessions can be accurately measured at high load, thus providing network equipment manufacturers and network service providers the confidence that they are developing and deploying products and services that will exceed their subscribers' expectations."
