Printer specialists Canon Australia is set to offer its customers the chance to send and receive faxes over a VoIP service network.

The firm has integrated the communication technology developed by MESSAGEmanager Solutions into its range of multi-functional printers.

Luke Maddison, senior product manager of business solutions at Canon Australia, claimed many professions still rely heavily on fax as a legally binding form of communication.

He said: "Businesses are converting to IP Fax software at an increasing rate to take advantage of the associated cost savings and efficiencies.

"MESSAGEmanager provides businesses with a centralised enterprise fax solution which is effortlessly managed at a remote site, resulting in lower operating costs and increased efficiencies."

According to a report by market research firm Davidson Consulting, companies are increasingly adopting fax over-internet-protocol solutions (FOIP).

The study shows that global sales of FOIP have grown by 69 per cent over the last 12 months.
