VoIP solutions in North Yorkshire could benefit from a government initiative to provide broadband to rural areas.

The county has submitted a bid to be one of three locations which will run a trial of the government's £300 million broadband scheme, reports yorkshirepost.co.uk.

The government set up the Broadband Delivery UK group to administer funds to rural areas to install broadband where internet service providers were unable to do so.

VoIP solutions could improve as a result of the faster internet connection as greater download speeds can boost call quality.

Julian Smith, MP for Skipton and Ripon, told the news provider: "With more and more focus on offering services online, we are concerned that communities in rural areas could be left behind, unable to get online and unable to access these services.

"There is no more rural county in England than North Yorkshire and so this region would be the perfect pilot area for rolling out superfast broadband."
