A US firm has released a new software package which allows companies to determine if their network is able to support VoIP services.

Technology company Apparent Networks has released the AppView software which measures a network's loss, latency and jitter rates.

This data can give companies more detailed information to ascertain their ability to handle VoIP solutions compared to traditional bandwidth measurements.

Jim Melvin, chief executive of Apparent Networks, claimed businesses can discover how each individual application is affecting network performance.

He said: "The addition of the AppView capabilities to the existing PathView Cloud solution represents a breakthrough in assessing, monitoring and troubleshooting both network-level performance and application-level performance across remote locations."

Mr Melvin added that AppView eliminates the need for IT departments to call out a technician as all the VoIP data is sent to the Apparent Networks server for analysis.
