British VoIP solutions could benefit from the globally high standard of UK broadband services.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has revealed that UK broadband packages compare favourably with those of other countries with regards to price and market penetration.

The cost of a monthly broadband subscription is just 0.63 per cent of the average Briton's monthly income, while consumers in France and Germany pay 1.0 and 1.2 per cent respectively.

According to the figures, 30 per cent of every 100 UK inhabitants have a fixed broadband subscription, compared with 27 per cent in the US, 31 per cent in France and 30 per cent in Germany.

UK VoIP traffic could rise as more people can access the technology via broadband, while call quality can also be improved through super-fast internet services.

ITU secretary-general Hamadoun Toure said: "Broadband is today's transformational technology. Through services such as e-health, e-education and e-government, broadband will power economic and social progress in the 21st century."
