Technology giants Toshiba and Samsung have unveiled plans for new tablet devices which could lead to an increase in VoIP traffic.

Toshiba has announced it will launch its Folio 100 tablet in the fourth quarter of the year throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The hardware will run on the Android operating system and is Wi-Fi enabled which will allow users to access mobile IP telephony solutions.

A Toshiba spokeswoman said: "The market for tablet devices like the iPad is attracting a lot of consumer attention."

Samsung has announced it will also enter the tablet market with the release of its Android-powered Galaxy Tab.

The model will also support Wi-Fi to allow consumers to make VoIP calls, while the in-built camera will enable users to benefit from video conferencing.

The Galaxy Tab will be available in Europe later this month, and unlike the Toshiba model, is set for launch in the US over the coming months.
