The global VoIP hardware industry has continued to grow, according to new research.

Infonetics Research has revealed that increased demand for session border controllers (SBCs) has contributed to the steady development of the VoIP equipment market during the second quarter of 2010.

SBCs are used in some IP telephony solutions networks to help control and boost the signal strength, while they can also improve call security.

Overall, market revenue increased to $564.7 million (£366.2 million) in the second three months of the year, a rise of 5.3 per cent compared to the previous quarter.

Diane Myers, directing analyst for service provider VoIP and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) at the intelligence firm, expressed her belief that media servers will also help increase demand for hardware.

She said: "SBCs and media servers will be the main growth engines of the carrier VoIP equipment market for 2010."

The report also revealed the IP multimedia industry, which can be used for VoIP calls, is also enjoying "healthy" growth.
