A US firm launched a new VoIP service which could significantly reduce the cost of making international calls.

VoicePlex has designed its Traveler package for international customers and those who do not have access to good cellular coverage.

Dan Kosek, co-founder of VoicePlex, claimed the firm offer cheaper call plans compared to traditional mobile operators.

He said: "Together our solution gives the international travellers a solution to the high cost of calling back the US while on the road. People now have the option to pay pennies a minute instead of dollars."

The service can be accessed via the 3G network or a Wi-Fi connection and is compatible with a range of smartphones including the iPhone and Nokia handsets.
The minimum contract term is one month, with monthly bills starting from $9.00 (£5.70) for 100 minutes.

VoicePlex has also launched a new VoIP application for the iPhone, iPad and iTouch, which allows users to access IP telephony solutions on their mobile device.
