New processor could reduce cost of VoIP solutions

A US firm has developed a new processor which could reduce the cost of creating VoIP hardware.

Mindspeed Technologies has released its latest VoIP processing device – the Comcerto 300xv.

The firm claim the device will help reduce the cost of expensive infrastructure used in developing VoIP technology such as the multi-dwelling unit.

Consumers could also profit as IP telephony solutions providers may pass on the cost savings to their customers.

Tricus Wang, product manager for Mindspeed's communications convergence processing business unit, underlined the benefits of the new processor.

He said: "The Comcerto 300xv is an ideal solution for cost- and power-sensitive VoIP platforms ranging from passive optical networking equipment and IP digital subscriber line access multiplexers to multi-service access nodes and PBX [private branch exchange] equipment."

The processor is compatible with a range of platforms, allowing developers to easily integrate it into their product range.
