A new mobile application has been launched which could increase VoIP traffic.

The latest version of the Nimbuzz software is now available on the Android mobile platform, allowing users to access IP telephony solutions via 3G or Wi-Fi.

Customers will be able to choose from a number of different VoIP providers as Nimbuzz is an open application and not restricted to a single client. Nimbuzz has also released its own VoIP service called NimbuzzOut.

Quentyn Kenneme, writing for phandroid.com, underlined the high sound quality available with the new software.

He said: "Call quality was clear and I couldn't find anything to complain about with that. This is probably due to them using the Jingle XMPP protocol which allows them to deliver unrivaled audio clarity for VoIP calls."

Mobile VoIP traffic could increase following the release of the application as more Android customers will have access to the technology.

Other forms of communication are also supported by the application including instant messaging services such as Google Talk, and Windows Live Messenger.
