A new VoIP phone has been launched which could boost the security of IP telephony solutions.

Infrax Systems has released its latest addition to the HTC Desire range which uses the popular Android operating system.

The new VoIP hardware utilises encryption technology to ensure no cybercriminals can intercept calls.

Carolyn John, writing for IT website tmc.net, claimed the new phone will not be susceptible to hackers as it does not use an open and centralised voice communication channel.

She said: "The Infrax Systems phone uses a secure peer-to-peer VoIP connection for communication between devices enabled using their unbreakable encryption technology. Instead of connecting via a central hub which is vulnerable to eavesdropping, the technology uses dedicated virtual connections."

Users can make calls over a variety of mobile internet connections including 3G and Wi-Fi.

Infrax Systems has released three different versions of the phone for government, industrial and business use.
