VoIP solutions could profit from a new service launched by BT designed to improve upload speeds.

The telecommunications giant has formed a partnership with internet service supplier Entanet to release the Annex M package which allows customers to sacrifice download speeds in order to improve upload rates.

Neil Watson, Entanet's head of service operations, expressed his belief that business VoIP users would profit from the new technology.

He said: "The increased upload speed better supports the requirements of remote workers and regional offices that regularly need to send and receive large files, download and upload information to and from company VPNs and use systems dependent on appropriate two way speeds, such as VoIP."

The standard of IP telephony solutions could improve as it is a 'two-way' technology and greater upload speeds can result in better call quality.

BT customers who can currently access download rates of 24Mbps will be able to access the Annex M software.
