VoIP solutions can be introduced by firms alongside videoconferencing, it has been claimed.

Many larger companies need to deploy videoconferencing on a huge scale which can use a great proportion of bandwidth and potentially have a negative effect on the quality of IP telephony solutions.

Melanie Turek, principal analyst at global research firm Frost and Sullivan, claimed network management packages can assist firms to introduce both technologies.

She said: "These applications support the enterprise-wide deployment of desktop videoconferencing by handling network management, bandwidth control and QoS [Quality of Service], along with integrated provisioning and account management."

Ms Turek added that businesses should also introduce strict policy control and network traffic prioritisation to ensure VoIP services and videoconferencing is adequately supported.

Network management tools enable firms to supervise all devices using one software package which can improve efficiency and boost performance.
