VoIP solutions are set to be launched in United Arab Emirates (UAE), it has been revealed.

Gigaset Communications, the German fixed-line telephone manufacturer, will offer residents VoIP phones when regulatory officials open up the market in the region, reports gulfnews.com.

IP telephony solutions were previously banned in the area but the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has allowed selected companies to apply for a license to provide the service.

Shahzad Ahmad, chief executive officer for Gigaset Communications, claimed users are looking to purchase more innovative technology.

He told the news provider: "More and more consumers in the region tend to buy sleeker phones with green credentials and higher sound quality."

The firm supplies customers with a range of environmentally friendly models with its Eco Dect handset range.

Phones which use Eco mode can reduce radiation during calls by 80 per cent, while the lithium-ion battery helps save energy.
