An Irish insurance firm has saved a significant amount of money after introducing VoIP solutions.

First Ireland Risk Management decided to upgrade its outdated communication system following its move to new premises, reports siliconrepublic.com.

The firm chose to adopt IP telephony solutions which resulted in lower phone bills and more efficient communication.

Sarah Sheridan, IT director at First Ireland, claimed the firm is considering extending VoIP to all areas of the business.

She told the website: "Having the VoIP system gives us options. We recently put in a GSM gateway which has made a big difference to our phone bill already, as calls out to mobiles were the most expensive part of our bill."

First Ireland integrated VoIP with other communication methods, such as e-mail, which allowed the company to manage all messages with one software package.

This reduced infrastructure costs and cut energy bills by around 60 per cent.
