A US firm has launched a new VoIP software package which can be integrated with a range of branded network equipment.

The Bria 3.1 softphone, developed by CounterPath, is compatible with telephony systems designed by Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco and NEC, as well as all Asterisk-based hardware.

Todd Carothers, vice president of product management, CounterPath, claimed the new software is user friendly.

He said: "Bria 3.1 proves that small and medium businesses, large enterprises, government agencies and other users don't have to compromise on call quality, video quality or usability when choosing to take advantage of all of the bottom-line benefits that multimedia softphones provide."

Users can make high-definition VoIP calls over wireless, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks and use the advanced conference calling feature.

The new system also has a streamlined user interface and layout to improve navigation.
