VoIP solutions are the future of voice communication, it has been claimed.

Mini Swamy, contributing editor for tmcnet.com, claimed the international call savings available to VoIP users will increase demand for the technology.

She said: "VoIP was developed in order to facilitate cost-effective voice communication to anywhere in the world.

"With everyone slowly veering towards this technology, it is bound to become the primary form of communications in the near future."

VoIP services are carried out over the internet so many users face little or no charge on top of their broadband subscription for making international calls.

Ms Swamy also states how firms can profit from IP telephony solutions as the cost-savings can help companies expand.

It follows research by Frost & Sullivan which revealed strong growth in the VoIP and SIP industry.

The US firm reported that sector revenues rose 22.3 per cent to $717.3 million (£472 million) in 2009.
