The introduction of a multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network could improve VoIP solutions, it has been claimed.

Communications firm DCC said businesses that deploy MPLS can benefit from an optimised IP network which can run multiple applications simultaneously.

Data is transferred more efficiently as the network uses label switching, which prioritises software depending on its importance.

DCC claimed companies that use IP telephony solutions could profit from deploying the network.

It said: "It makes it possible to implement VoIP and prioritise applications ahead of the best-effort non-critical data.

"MPLS also offers clients on the network the reliability and security of legacy technologies like Frame Relay with the routing flexibility of IP."

Meanwhile, DCC announced it will complete its roll-out of an MPLS network across 62 cities in Nigeria next month.
