A new mobile VoIP application has been launched after gaining approval by Apple.

Toktumi has released its updated Line 2 application which fully takes advantage of the new multi-tasking feature available on Apple's latest operating system - iOS4.

The software allows iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to make and receive calls while they are using other applications, such as music and games.

Peter Sisson, founder and chief executive officer of Toktumi, claimed users would benefit from the new software.

He said: "With backgrounding, Line2 subscribers that don't have cell reception or are trying to reduce their cell minutes can always get their calls, even if they are using another application, listening to music, or playing a game on their iPhone or iPod Touch."

Line 2 Version 2.4 is the only dual VoIP/cellular application in the world, enabling customers to make and receive calls wherever they are.

The application uses VoIP solutions via Wi-Fi or 3G networks in areas of poor mobile phone coverage and cellular networks where VoIP is unavailable.
