Firm sees advantages of VoIP caller ID

A US estate agent's has benefited from using the force caller name feature available on VoIP hardware.

The application allows VoIP users to assign a name to the number dialed by the caller, allowing those who re-direct calls to one phone to know which number was called.

Prosper Ltd bought 2,000 phone numbers to assign to its range of listed properties and used the force caller name feature to identify which property a prospective buyer was interested in.

Kieron James, chief executive officer Numbertalk, a firm that provides the force name feature, underlined the advantages of the application.

He said: "Each time somebody calls about the property at a particular address, the address will flash on the caller display so that the person answering the call will know exactly which property they are going to be talking about."

Many businesses could benefit from the software as employees will be able to distinguish between professional and personal calls before answering the phone.
