A US firm has launched a new software package which accurately measures the voice quality of VoIP solutions.

GL Communications (GL) has released its Voice Quality Testing Solution platform, alerting users of any communication device to not only the call quality but the rate of call failures.

Mr Robert Bichefsky, senior manager at GL, claimed a universal standard was needed for the wide range of handsets and various connection types.

He said: "They [communication devices] can interconnect using 2G, 3G, and 4G wireless networks, landline TDM networks, and IP networks - all with varying impairments.

"As a result, end to end voice quality is more variable and more important than in the past with a homogeneous network."

The new standard should help customers make an informed decision when purchasing their next VoIP phone.

GL has made its software compatible with PCs, conventional landline phones, mobileVoIP phones, and mobile wireless phones.
