Holidaymakers should consider using
VoIP solutions when abroad, expert claims.
Many
mobile phone operators charge high-rates to customers who use their handset in a foreign country, resulting in huge bills.
IP telephony solutions, on the other hand, are an affordable option as the call charge is not dependant on the user's location.
Matthew Lasar, technology expert at arstechnica.com, claimed travellers should use
VoIP services "to avoid nasty billing surprises".
For further cost savings, Mr Lasar advises customers to seek out a free Wi-Fi internet connection.
"You should also check out the internet cafe options at your destination, then maybe just do your VoIP calling and conferencing there," he wrote on the website.
The European Union recently recommended VoIP to holidaymakers as a sound alternative communication method to traditional cellular networks.
