VoIP solutions have improved the fortunes of a French hotel resort in the Mediterranean, reports tmc.net.

The firm introduced IP telephony solutions in 2007 as their previous phone system was outdated and unable to expand.

Within 49 months of implementing the £65,000 service, provided by US company Super Technologies, the resort had realised a return on its investment.

Monthly phone bills were cut in half as long-distance VoIP calls are significantly cheaper than standard network rates.

The hotel resort was also able to increase its marketing presence around Europe by offering local contact numbers in four other countries without an increase in cost.

Suzanne Bowen, vice president of Super Technologies, was adamant that VoIP solutions could be a great success in the tourism industry.

She said: "In my opinion, this case study is another set of proof that VoIP is not dead and to start ... hotels and tourism and business travel industry in general are craving the savings and great features, scalability and flexibility of IP communications."
