VoIP traffic could be set to rise following TalkTalk's latest offer of free broadband for a year.

The internet service provider has announced that new customers will not be billed for broadband or selected telephone services for 12 months.

Users who sign up for an 18-month contract before June 8th will have access to TalkTalk's Essentials package - offering download speeds of up to 24Mbps.

The deal, which also comes with a generous monthly data allowance of 40GB, could boost VoIP traffic as more customers gain access to affordable broadband packages.

Customers will not be billed the standard £6.99 for the first year while evening and weekend calls will also be free, representing an overall annual saving of £84.

TalkTalk will charge account holders a monthly charge of £11.49 for line rental in addition to a one-off fee of £29.99 for installation.

The firm recently confirmed that it uses Britain's biggest next-generation broadband network, which covers 85 per cent of the UK.
