expansion of 3G networks, according to research.

A new report by technology research firm Juniper Research has revealed that the industry will develop faster in Europe and North America following the increased access to 3G.

Anthony Cox, senior analyst at Juniper Research, said: "By 2012 we expect significant uptake of mobile VoIP in its various different flavours. By that date mobile VoIP will be available over both 3G and WiFi networks."

The company also predicts that several more traditional operators will have developed relationships with mobile VoIP companies.

Juniper echoes recent calls for traditional phone operators to embrace mobile VoIP rather than block its deployment.

The report also shows mobile VoIP traffic volumes may eventually be higher in developing markets as migrant workers in these areas use the service to call family members.
