More businesses in Bristol could access improved VoIP solutions following the introduction of fibre-optic broadband cables in the city.

BT has installed the next-generation broadband network in Downend which will allow businesses and residents to access download speeds of 40 Mbps.

The move could dramatically improve VoIP communications as faster internet connections will provide a more reliable connection and higher call quality.

Jon Reynolds, south-west regional director for BT, stated that the company will continue to roll-out super-fast broadband throughout the region

He said: "The arrival of fibre-based broadband will support local jobs and the local economy and is a vital part of our plans for the south-west."

The move is part of BT's £2.5 billion plan to offer high-speed broadband throughout the country.
