BT has launched a new system that could significantly improve VoIP solutions for both consumers and providers.

The telecoms firm has launched its IP Exchange platform - the wholesale service that enables communications providers to seamlessly connect VoIP calls with traditional network calls.

Cameron Rejali, managing director for BT Wholesale, claimed that the new platform will allow providers to introduce IP telephony solutions with speed and ease.

He said: "This approach enables our customers to quickly implement end to end IP interconnectivity at scale with minimum upfront investment."

Smaller businesses will enjoy rapid growth as BT introduced a pre-pay facility that allows operators to use the platform without the need for upfront deposits.

The service, which is already being used by over 100 fixed line and mobile operators in the UK, is available worldwide.

Customers can connect to the hubs using a range of methods, including BT's high quality MPLS network which is available in over 170 countries.
