A US company has saved $20,000 (£14,000) a month by switching to VoIP solutions, reports networkworld.com.

Boston staffing firm Aquent made the move to a VoIP provider as the company's previous phone system was becoming outdated.

Following the introduction of the technology, the company has made the significant savings from using a less expensive data network for calls and eliminating local dedicated phone lines.

UK companies could also benefit from similar savings should they implement VoIP hardware, as IP telephony solutions consistently offer cheaper call plans than other operators.

Aquent has also enjoyed several other benefits from the service, including the integration of all forms of communication within the company.

The new system allows employees to send voice mail as e-mail attachments, so remote staff members can easily be contacted.

Furthermore, those who are unable to come into the office will be able to join in business meetings via videoconferencing.
