The Finnish army will trial VoIP solutions throughout the year in an effort to improve military communications.

Elektrobit Corporation (EB), a wireless communications firm, will provide its EB Tough VoIP system to the armed forces.

The Finnish Air Force already uses the company's VoIP service, but the system will be tested even further in a series of demanding military scenarios.

Soldiers will be able to benefit from improved communication in the field, as VoIP solutions will be available in areas with limited mobile or radio reception.

"EB Tough VoIP was designed to fulfil the communications needs of military units, and we continue to strive towards achieving that goal," said Mikko Viitaniemi, senior manager of EB.

Furthermore, the technology also moves the army closer to a Network Centric Defence model, which will simplify communication throughout the country's forces.

EB has confirmed that it will assist the army throughout the testing period in order to ensure proper usage and meet system requirements.
