Remote working technologies such as IP telephony solutions are continuously becoming cheaper and more accessible, GHM Communications has said.

However, one of the most underused technologies by home workers is video conferencing, according to the telecoms communications provider.

Video conferencing is more affordable than ever before thanks to low component prices and communication costs and with broadband access now the norm, GHM Communications believe.

The prevalence of broadband also means that it is increasingly practical for businesses to use VoIP solutions to convey their communications via an internet connection.

Similarly, home workers need only a broadband connection, a webcam, a microphone and some instant messaging or VoIP provider software to enable them to use video conferencing.

Companies looking to conduct regular conference calls with employees, clients and others should look into the more sophisticated web conferencing solutions now available, according to GHM Communications.

The use of VoIP is "moving into the small business mainstream", the FOX Business Network said recently.

VoIP phones, along with other emerging applications, such as social media, instant messaging and video conferencing, can help reduce the need for business travel, according to the business news website.
