VoIP solutions could be set to benefit from a campaign which aims to establish the UK as a digital nation.

Race Online 2012, led by Martha Lane Fox, the government's first champion for digital inclusion, intends to make the UK one of the first countries in the world to establish a fully online, internet-enabled society.

The Internet Services Providers' Association, the trade association that represents providers of internet services, yesterday announced that is has accepted an invitation to be a partner of Race Online 2012.

The ISPA's participation in the campaign could help accelerate digital inclusion in the UK, meaning that more of the population would have access to online services such as VoIP phones.

More than ten million adults across the UK have never used the internet, and four million of this group are also socially excluded, according to the ISPA.

The ISPA has launched the Digital Inclusion Award as part of its partnership with Race Online 2012, which will recognise those that have done the most to enable internet access.

Broadband subscriptions worldwide will rise to half a billion over the next year, according to Informa Telecoms & Media, which could boost global VoIP traffic.
