Oxford open to VoIP traffic.Posted 1 year 9 months ago in: Broadband ![]() Telappliant News: 2010-04-22 Rate this article: Oxford could be one of the best cities in the world in which to use VoIP solutions. Oxford is among the top ten cities around the world with the highest average internet connection speeds, Akamai Technologies has said. This means that the city receives the rapid and reliable broadband service needed to use online services such as on-demand television and IP telephony solutions. Internet content and application delivery company Akamai Technologies, measured broadband connectivity levels across the globe as part of its 4th Quarter, 2009 State of the Internet report. The 15 European cities in the 100 cities with the fastest internet connections are spread across six countries. In comparison, 62 of the top 100 cities are in Asia and 23 are in North America. The Akamai report also found that, based on average measured connection speeds around the globe, eight of the top ten countries saw quarterly increases in connection speeds. Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats all announced plans to deploy super-fast broadband across the UK in their election manifestos last week. This means that UK VoIP traffic is likely to receive a boost over the next few years no matter who wins the forthcoming general election.
