The UK's average download speed has fallen marginally from 4.659 megabits per second (Mbps) in February 2010 to 4.527 Mbps in March 2010, according to new data from ISPreview UK.

The website also published a chart grouping the top ten ISPs (Internet Service Providers) for both download speed and upload speed as well.

Virgin Media came out top for download speed, with an average speed across its services of 8.192Mbps, while O2 and Sky came second and third respectively with 5.355 and 3.829.

For upload speeds, the story was broadly similar, with O2, Virgin and Sky coming first, second and third, respectively, with 0.703, 0.550 and 0.490 Mbps.

The speeds are all of sufficient scale to support VoIP and show that, for UK users, VoIP traffic can be easily supported by their local ISPs.
