Broadband, the internet delivery model which supports VoIP traffic and networks across the country, is celebrating its tenth birthday on Wednesday, according to the Press Association.

In 2000, the first broadband was installed in Essex as part of a trial. By 2002, there were around 200,000 broadband users across the country and within four years this had grown to 13 million.

Now there are close to 20 million broadband users, and climbing. Currently two-thirds of all UK households use VoIP.

The government is insisting that there will be a universal broadband service by 2012. With the election on the cards, that remains to be seen, but all parties have expressed a commitment to increasing the speed, if not the coverage, of the UK's VoIP traffic and networks.
