The new tablet computer from electronics company Samsung will be able to make voice calls using IP telephony solutions, Boy Genius Report has said.

According to the gadget blog, VoIP solutions will be used to enable the device to make calls over 3G and 4G networks.

"The tablet could feature calling via a headset presumably using some implementation of VoIP, 3G and possibly even 4G connectivity," Kelly Hodgkins of Boy Genius Report wrote.

Tweakers.net also reported that Samsung's tablet will be powered by Google's Android mobile operating system rather than by Microsoft's Windows as previously expected, Boy Genius Report stated.

The Dutch electronics news and reviews website said that the device, due for launch in the second half of 2010, will use ARM-based architecture rather than Intel's Atom chip.

Ms Hodgkins said that these rumours would make the device "much more desirable than a rehashed Q1" - the mobile PC Samsung launched in 2006.

Those planning to purchase an iPad could make sizeable savings by using IP telephony solutions with the device, VoIP Services said last month.

Consumers thinking about investing in Apple's tablet computer could benefit from the relatively low cost of data plans through a VoIP provider.
