VoIP users celebrate tougher broadband stance

VoIP users will welcome news this week that Ofcom, the government's communications regulator, is to take a tougher stance with broadband providers that fail to deliver advertised speeds.

Connection speed is vital to VoIP customers as it reduces the chances of calls dropping out or sound quality deteriorating.

It has long been a gripe of internet users that the speed advertised by some providers is some way short of what they actually experience.

However, Ofcom has said it will now get tough with the broadband sector, warning that providers need to be upfront about connection speeds.

If the industry fails to act, Ofcom said, then it could face new regulations.

VoIP is an increasingly popular service, helping individuals and businesses to dramatically reduce their calling costs.
