Ofcom has unveiled further proposals designed to encourage and speed the roll-out of high-speed
broadband networks across the UK, which will ultimately help to support VoIP traffic.
Currently, 46 per cent of UK households have access to super-fast broadband.
To speed the roll-out, Ofcom is proposing that BT opens up its underground ducts and overhead telegraph poles to allow for further competition, along with its fibre lines.
By doing this, Ofcom hopes that the increased competition among rival firms will lead to an acceleration in the rate at which broadband is pushed out to the rest of the UK, helping to support a future rich in VoIP traffic.
