Governments are gravitating to VoIP and VoIP traffic as a solution to their communication issues, according to a new report by In-Stat.

The report found that 48 per cent of respondents in government institutions have VoIP deployed in at least one location.

Norm Bogen, In-Stat's vice president of research, explained that: "Overall, integration is more critical than cost savings. However, cost is most critical in the education segment, while scalable features and capabilities are most important in the government segment."

The results of the survey show that, thanks to VoIP's relative cheapness and extreme adaptability, large institutions feel comfortable using it for a variety of functions. And with the UK government planning to focus increasingly on IT as a key cost saving measure over the next few years, we can expect VoIP traffic, and use, to increase.
