BBC News is reporting that homes and businesses in Wales in the UK, are receiving the next-generation of superfast broadband, which will help support VoIP traffic across their local networks.

The upgrade - which will serve 16,000 businesses and which is costing £1.5 billion - will increase speeds in the area by five-fold.

And a faster broadband network allows for further VoIP opportunities - from standard VoIP networks to high-definition VoIP to even video VoIP.

Ann Beynon, BT director for Wales, said: "Once again, Wales is at the forefront of the broadband revolution in the UK."

"The upgrading of the network and BT exchanges in central Cardiff and Taffs Well is the latest vital step in ensuring that Wales benefits from exciting, leading edge technology capable of delivering a wide range of innovative new applications, such as high-definition video conferencing and 3D television over broadband."
