The results are in from ISPreview's latest survey on UK opinions over the UK's Digital Britain plans and the news is that people want less regulation on and a greater availability of high bandwidth connections, all things which will spur VoIP traffic.

74.3 per cent of respondents said they did not support the proposed 50p broadband tax on phone lines, while 61.3 per cent believed that having a 100Mbps (Megabits per second) broadband connection would benefit them.

The high level of consumer demand for next-generation broadband, combined with a preference against high government regulation on broadband, shows that UK consumers want their broadband fast and unregulated.

And with increased speed will come great benefits to VoIP traffic, as the rise in speeds will lead to a greater availability by the network to comfortably support large amounts of VoIP traffic. Users views of broadband as being integral to their media consumption were expressed by the majority of respondents (31.7 per cent) identifying part of the TV license fee as the best way to fund broadband.

With greater investment, the UK's broadband network can be upgraded to fibre optic lines, allowing for greater efficiency, speed and convenience of VoIP traffic.
