Overall Virgin outfitted 28,600 new households in the fourth quarter, bringing the total aggregate number of signed up users to 4.77 million. Neil Berkett, chief executive officer of Virgin Media, said: "In a rapidly evolving market, we are also laying the foundations for long-term growth. Despite other operators' embryonic investment in fibre, Virgin Media's cable network will, for the foreseeable future, provide an unparalleled platform for delivering successive generations of new and innovative services." There were also 77,100 new mobile contract subscriptions. The increase in broadband subscriptions is encouraging use for the VoIP market as the increase in the number of subscribers means that there are more users with the communications infrastructure capable of supporting VoIP traffic.
