The innovations and low costs offered by VoIP solutions have revolutionised the telephony market, AccountingWEB has said.

IP telephony solutions have also opened up the market in terms of the sheer array of alternatives to traditional services now available, according to the accounting professionals' online community.

Many enterprises are looking to maintain a high standard of communication with their client base despite having to cut costs following the recession.

This has seen accountancy firms both large and small try out various VoIP provider services, according to John Stokdyk, technology editor at AccountingWEB.

TaxAssist Accountants, an accountancy and tax service for small businesses in Surbiton, rolled out a hosted telephony system last year as part of moving to a new location.

"The new system was simple to deploy and coped well as the firm grew and added staff," according to Mr Stokdyk.

Bruce Burrows, owner of the franchise member firm of the network of small business accountants TaxAssist, said that VoIP had benefited his business by allowing flexible working and superior scalability, thus aiding business expansion.

Firms should engage with specialists, such as VoIP providers, in order to lower their telecoms costs and improve their service, Hudson & Yorke said recently.
